Travel | A weekend in Munich

Hi guys,

I am back from an amazing trip to Munich this bank holiday and wanted to share with you some of my snaps from over the weekend and some handy tips if you are thinking of visiting Munich.

I went with my boyfriend to visit my brother, who lives there. It is such a beautiful city and I loved exploring its many historic buildings, gorgeous parks and tasting traditional German food. It’s safe to say I came back to England with very sore legs from non stop walking all weekend.

When we arrived we dumped our bags and headed straight to the centre of the city to grab some food. There is an amazing market in Marien Platz full of traditional Germany food, yummy fruit and veg and handmade goodies. It also has a large beer garden right in the middle, which was buzzing with life on a Friday afternoon.

 

St. Peters Church is behind Marien Platz and the viewing point at the top of the tower is the best way to see the whole city and only cost €2. It is quite a climb up to the top of it but has amazing views of the clock tower and the whole of Munich once you are up there.

We headed to the Olympic park after that which is North of the centre but only a few stops on the Underground away. 

After meeting up with my brother we decided to hire some bikes, which were really good value at around £12 for 3 hours. We rode along the beautiful Isar River, which runs straight through the city and is so fresh and clean due to running from the mountains. As it was a sunny day the banks were full of people cooking barbeques, playing sports and swimming in the river.

My favourite parts of Munich is easily the English Gardens. It is one of the largest parks in the world as it runs right through and around the city and is so easy to get lost in. I love the culture over there. The Germans love to sit in the park with friends, drinking beer, reading books or just sunbathing. It’s so relaxed and laid back.

We visited a different part of the park each day, seeing the surfers on the artificial waves one day, renting a boat the next and sitting in the large beer garden in the centre the other.

We stayed in the Angelo Hotel in Leuchtenbergring, which I would highly recommend. We chose it as it is very close to where my brother lives but it turned out to be a quick and enjoyable walk to the centre and nearest over ground station too.

Tom also wanted to visit the Allianz football stadium which was close by, and we took a tour which cost €10 each.

I could have stayed so much longer as there is so much to do, see and eat!
