DIY | Make Your Own Pendant Bedside Lamps

I have recently given our bedroom a bit of an update with these hanging pendant bedside lamps.
We had the same old lamps since we moved in almost two years ago, and I had been looking for some new ones for a while. When I saw an idea to hang some pendent lights on Pinterest, I thought they looked great and just I had to give it a go.
I was really impressed how easy this DIY came together once I had all the components and think it looks great, if you fancy giving it a go here's how I did it...

Materials:
Wooden shelving bracket
Screws (30mm at least)
Bulb
Screw driver
Drill
Rawl plugs
Paint (optional)

It took a little hunting to find pendant cables with a UK plug on the end, but I was really happy with these ones I found on Ebay that had a switch attached too. There was plenty of colours and lengths to choose from but I liked this black and white option as I thought it would go well in our bedroom. I bought the three meter length as our bed is quite high and I wanted to wrap the cable around the bracket a few times.

To start with I painted my brackets using the same paint colour as our skirting boards. I loved the natural wood look but our bedroom is very white and clean so I thought painting them would be the best option. Once dried, I roped my dad in to help with attaching the brackets to the wall. We measured equally above each end of the bed and drilled holes to insert some rawl plugs. I could then screw in the bracket using a screw driver and wrap my pendant cable around it.

Once I was happy with the cable position the last thing to attach was the bulb. I loved this large globe vintage bulb from Homebase, but its worth shopping around to find cheaper versions at wholesalers or local dealers.

And you're done. It's that simple!
This DIY is a great way to make a stylish statement without spending loads on a new lamp, and you can really personalise them to fit in with any decor. Why not try spraying the bracket copper or using a different shape bulb?!
The best bit about these lights are that they have the on/off switch half way down the cable, meaning we can just toggle these when we want to go to bed instead of switching them off at the wall.

Would you give it a go? I would love to hear about your latest DIY inspirations, leave a comment below or tweet me @madeupstyle on twitter.
