As this year’s London fashion week arrives in Somerset house
this weekend I decided to take a look back at the street style from NYFW to pick up some tips from the New Yorkers on how to work the perfect fashion week outfit.
Lesson One
How to Wrap Up Warm
A New Yorker knows how to keep warm so learn from the best.
The over-sized coat was definitely the star of NYFW this year, from ankle
skimming trenches to furry balls of warmth, coats were a winner. Some snuggled
into chunky scarves around their necks while others left their coats open to
reveal layers of perfect styling underneath.
Lesson Two
How to Rock the New Season's IT Trousers
Culottes are cool! Apparently! I was a little unsure at
first...
I feel like it would be a tricky trend to pull off such a wide leg style but if its good enough for VB you know its going to be a big trend. So many street stylers were snapped styling their culottes with pointed heels and baggy jumpers for a laid back 80’s feel. And if it wasn’t culottes, it was some form of wide legged trouser in white or grey.

Lesson Three
How to
do wear a Minimal Colour Pallet
Colour took a back seat this fashion week, instead the
fashionistas opted for tans, greys and whites for a fresh, austerity look.
Denim added a little bit of depth to outfits but most colour was added in
accessories. The focus seemed to be very much on making a statement using texture and simple layering
rather than with bold colours.
Lesson Four
How to do Cool Retro
The catwalks from September were full of 70’s
influence and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere fast. The fashion elite are
bringing back the flares in a big way.
Look no further than Olivia Palermo who
rocked several styles, from denim to tan. The key is not to overdo it. Pick one
retro item per outfit, flares, high neck or a mustard coat and pair with simple
co ordinates.
Olivia styled her flares with simple high boots and an envy-
worthy collection of coats.
Lesson Five
How to be Make the Practical Accessory Stylish
Kicks and over the body bags were spotted in their plenty on the streets of
New york last week. These easy to wear accessories are not only practical but
super cute too. I am all for being comfortable so this trend gets a big thumbs
up from me.
I can't wait to see what London Fashion week has in store for us!
What is your favourite look from the streets this fashion month?
Thanks for reading!
