DIY | Homemade Lemon & Honey Facemask

I love treating myself to a facial when I can afford a trip to the spa. But sometimes my budget won’t stretch to include this little luxury, so I often do my own facials at home. This weekend has been nothing but amazing but come Monday morning my skin looked dull, tired and lacking in glow. So I thought I’d show you one of my favourite homemade masks that’s perfect for post-busy-weekend skin.

DIY | Pineapple Print Headband | Tutorial

DIY | Pineapple Print Headband | Tutorial

I am a little obsessed with pineapple prints at the moment. They just make anything look instantly more cool, fun and summery. I especially love this print on accessories like clutch bags and headbands. So I thought I’d show you an easy way to make your own pineapple printed accessory. I have a great headband from American Apparel that I bought last summer which is made of silky material that has a flexible wire running through it so you can bend it into a cute bow. I wear it all the time to keep my hair out of my face in hot whether, so thought I’d make another in the same style but with this years 'IT' print.

Here’s how I did it.

Fashion | Neon & Pleats

I love summer fashion. Dressing for the warm weather is so much fun as you can be a lot more adventurous and playful than in winter, especially with colours. Here is an outfit I wore over the weekend to my friends birthday at a Coffee & Clay evening in Skipton. I dressed up this beautiful pleated midi skirt with pops of bold neon colours. I bought this skirt last summer from ASOS and have got a lot of use out of it, as it's so easy to style up for either day or night.

These gorgeous neon shoes are Miss KG and a recent summer purchase which I have been waiting to wear for a while. I don't often wear heels but couldn't resist these bright beauties. They are the perfect height and have a thick, secure strap around the ankle, making them easy to walk in.

Top - Topshop
Skirt - ASOS (similar)
Shoes - Miss KG -Very
Necklace - Topshop

A bold colourful statement necklace is my favourite way to finish an outfit off and this beautiful turquoise Topshop one is perfect for summer.

What's your favourite summer colour? I would love to hear your thoughts, thanks for reading!

DIY | July Makes | Kimono

I thought I'd share with you what I have been making recently. This month I have mainly been sewing some silky summer kimonos. I made my first one for myself after unsuccessfully finding the perfect one on the high street. I was overwhelmed with the positive response I got from my lovely friends after posting this picture on Instagram. So I started making them for anyone who asked for one. I love making them, they are so easy and fun. The silky material is beautiful and drapes perfectly. I added fringing on some and left others plain, but personally love the fringing.

I have made a darker blue kimono for one of my oldest friends for her 22nd birthday and cant wait to give it to her on Friday. I love seeing people wearing my creations and hearing their kind and encouraging words, it makes it all the more worth while.

I hope you like it!
Thanks for reading

DIY | Summer Crop Top | Tutorial

If like me you love vintage prints, whether its ditsy daisies or candy coloured prints, you’ll understand my excitement when I bought this cute mint green light weight cotton material. I wanted to make something simple but stylish for summer days out with it, so decided to make my own vintage inspired summer crop top.  I made this garment using only 4 simple measurements on my body. This is a really easy way to make a top that fits you without following a pattern, if you want to make your own here’s how…

Lifestyle | Book Review | How to Fall in Love by Cecelia Ahern

It’s hard to think of anything I love more than getting lost in a really great book. It’s one of life's simple pleasures, and summer is a great excuse to stock up on the latest chick lit holiday reads. I am usually drawn to down-to-earth, light-hearted fictions that depict real life in fun and quirky ways. I love learning things when reading a book so a story with an interesting plot or twist is an added bonus, for example one that really stood out for me is Jojo Moyes’s, Me before You, which I read last year. Apart from being a standard boy meets girl tale, it also gave a really interesting insight into the heart-breaking and delicate subjects of paralysis and euthanasia.

This year I was looking for a light and fun read with a subject that would really inspire me to take life by the horns and start a new adventure. I hadn’t read anything from Cecelia Ahern before, but this book caught my eye. The opening drops you right in the middle of a fast paced, exciting story and as I haven’t got the attention span for a slow burner, thought this would be great for me.

The story revolves around Christine, a determined, self-help-guide addict who runs into a desperate, suicidal Adam, one cold night in Dublin. She persuades him not to take his life by jumping of a bridge and in doing so agrees to change his state of mind and save his life before his next birthday, which happens to be two weeks way.

The story follows Christine and Adam on an uplifting journey as their friendship blossoms and subsequently help each other overcome heartache, family feuds and guilt. Set in Ireland, the author takes you on a whistle stop tour of some of its most gorgeous cities. It made me long for a romantic city break in Dublin as it’s a city I have never actually been to, but would love to visit one day.

This is a great read if you’re feeling a little disheartened about certain things like I have been recently and helps reminds you why life is beautiful. It’s a lovely story about the importance of friendship and proves that at the end of the day all we need is someone there to listen, laugh and share life with.

How to Fall in Love is a funny, heart-warming and inspiring read. I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for an easy read to grab-and-go when jetting off this summer. Let me know if you have read any of Cecelia Ahern novels before, I would love to hear your thoughts and reviews.

My favourite recent recommended reads:

1.     Me before You by Jojo Moyes
2.     Where’d you go Bernadette by Maria Semple
3.     Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
